7 Common Mistakes Beginner UI/UX Designers Make and How to Avoid Them

Over the years, we’ve seen the same mistakes made by beginners. Here are seven of the most common:

  1. Too many elements on one screen
Solution: Apply the “one screen — one goal” principle.
  2. Ignoring hierarchy
Everything looks equally important. Solution: Start with a wireframe and clearly define priorities.
  3. Using random colors
Solution: Create a semantic color system (primary, success, warning, etc.).
  4. Lack of spacing system
Solution: Create an indentation scale (4, 8, 16, 24, 32 px) and stick to it.
  5. Working without user flow
The designer draws screens one at a time. Solution: Always draw the full user journey before creating screens.
  6. Ignoring mobile-first
First they make a desktop, then they “squeeze”. Solution: Start the design on the smallest screen.
  7. Not testing on real people
The most common mistake. Solution: Even 3–5 guerrilla tests provide a huge amount of insights.

In our guides (especially in Zenith Pass and Flux Guide) we analyze in detail how to avoid these mistakes already at the stage of the first projects.
